mom update

I talked to mom last night and here's the scoop...

She was originally supposed to have Round #3 on July 8, but due to low...well, low everything...they postponed her third treatment until July 18. Then, yesterday, she got a call from her nurse explaining that some counts were still too low and they would be postponing chemo again.

I understand there are three basic things they measure in her frequent blood tests - hemoglobin (oxygen level in the blood), white blood cells (the good cells that fight off infection), and platelets (helps your blood clot).

Mom's hemoglobin is very low, which explains why she is so weak and tires easily. Her white blood cells are also too low, but aren't as big a concern as her hemoglobin levels. Her platelet levels, while low a week or two ago, are actually okay now. As mom likes to put it, she can play with knives again!

The good news is that her cancer count is also down. The chemo is doing it's job...and then some.

It sounds like she'll have at least two more rounds of chemo before they consider surgery. Please pray specifically that her hemoglobin and white blood cell counts begin to rise so that she can continue blazing down the path to healing.

Until next time...
