More Lamar, Yellowstone Canyon and a snowball fight on Mt. Washburn

A buffalo and his wallow

We returned to Lamar Valley on Thursday for a second attempt at spotting wolves. Sadly, the wolves just weren't meant to be seen this trip.

Part Buffalo, Part Camel

Just east of Tower Junction, we hiked the Yellowstone River Picnic Area Trail, a 4 mile out and back trail along a ridge overlooking the Yellowstone River.

Of course she's happy. She gets to enjoy the view in the shade while being carried.

Although the wolves were in hiding, the grizzly bears were not. We spied this grizzly as we were leaving the valley. Again, I never seem to have my zoom lens when I need it. Look closely to see the 350+ pounds of brown fuzz in the middle of the photo.

Just once, I'd love for them to smile normally and look at the camera simultaneously.

When you see snow on the side of the road in June, there really is no choice but to stop for an impromptu snowball fight.

On the way home, we stopped to watch this handsome elk feast on wildflowers and grass.
