One month well baby check-up

Henry got a good report from Dr. Wilsey on Thursday. Henry now weighs 11 lbs/9.8 ounces and is in the 80th percentile for size. He is going to be a big boy! But we knew that when the nurses screamed 24 inches in the operating room.

Dr. Wilsey gave us some new formula to try. Henry has been "spitting" more than average and Dr. Wilsey suspects he may have reflux. We're hopeful once Henry has been on the new formula for a few days he will be able to keep more food down. This would also mean he would eat less frequently, which would help us all. Currently, it seems all we do is feed and laundry. We go through 7 to 8 burp cloths a day...and I've lost track of the bib count.

Thank you Aunt Carolina for my new chair (and frames)! I also love my yellow ZOOM ZOOM onsie!! Don't I look handsome?!

Welcome Henry Ward Shaw

Friday, April 25 at 10:54 am Henry Ward Shaw made his debut. Henry weighed 8 lbs. and 15 oz. He was 24 inches long! Perhaps a Stillwater Medical Center record?! Everyone in Labor and Delivery was buzzing about "the 24 inch baby". We checked into the hospital Friday morning and were released with a clean bill of health on Monday afternoon. It's good to have Henry home and in our arms...and hard to believe we've already celebrated his one week birthday!

Henry has a birth date!

Henry and I saw Dr. Goldsworthy yesterday. The news was bitter sweet. Good news - Henry will make his debut tomorrow, April 25. Not so good news - I am scheduled for a c-section. Dr. Goldsworthy is concerned about Henry's size and possible complications during delivery. When I told her we wanted to do whatever was best for the baby, she said without hesitation - "a c-section". I'm confident we're doing the right thing, but will admit I feel some disappointment. I was hopeful we could have a natural delivery, but realize surgery is the best way to ensure Henry is healthy - the most important thing. Regardless, Wade and I are going to be parents in less than 24 hours!

What's ironic about this whole ordeal is that for the past week I've been doing EVERYTHING to try and move labor along...I've been walking (sometimes twice) every day, working in the yard, mopping floors, you name it! Now, since our appointment yesterday, I'm working to STAY pregnant until our c-section. If active labor happens before tomorrow morning we'll be having an emergency c-section, which defeats the point of scheduling the darn thing.

Henry W. Shaw - Future Olympic Swimmer

Henry and I saw Dr. Goldsworthy this morning...he still hasn't dropped. A friend is convinced he must be a swimmer, loving the amniotic life. If he drops quickly, perhaps a diver? Regardless, I think he gets his stubbornness from Grandpa Ward. But aside from Henry being slow as molasses, we got a good report. Henry continues to grow stronger (and longer) and has a healthy heart beat. We'll visit Dr. Goldsworthy again next Wednesday, unless we meet in the hospital before then. Eleven more days...and counting...until Henry's due date.

7 lbs 10 ozs

We had an ultrasound yesterday and got wonderful news! Henry is a healthy 7 lbs 10 ozs and is perfect. His head and torso/shoulders are proportionate, which was the doctor's biggest concern, and he has "very long" legs. I'm convinced Henry is going to be a basketball legend. I measured 1/2 centimeter less than last week, which means he's descending...just slowly. Dr. Goldsworthy said she wasn't ready to schedule an induction date until he had descended more. If Henry doesn't get too comfortable, and continues to drop, we may be able to schedule an induction at our next appointment on Wednesday, April 16. So, think south Henry, think south! As long as Henry stays below 9 lbs, Dr. Goldsworthy said she fully expects a normal delivery. Yea!

For those of you I haven't talked to since our April 3 doctor's appointment, we were worried surgery might be inevitable. Because of my borderline gestational diabetes and genetics, the doctor was scared Henry might be a monster size baby. Thankfully, he just has long legs! And I might add that Henry's legs are strong too - his kicks are becoming painful! Ouch!
